This is how God works sometimes: when you have a “lamp unto your feet ” or “a light unto your path” it means you just see what is right before you on your way. It does not mean there are huge flood lights so you can clearly see the end of the way. Instead it means that you have got a little torch so that you see what is right in front of you – and sometimes not even that! God wants us to rely on Him, so He can lead us step by step, and therefore He only shows us exactly what we need to know to take the next step – and sometimes the result is a huge surprise! Who says life with God is boring? ;)

Thy Word...
I had never thought much about this verse, until some years ago it was quoted by a young missionary talking about her work in our church. When she had been sent out to a distant country some years before for her it had been obvious what she would be doing there: go to a remote mountain area to teach the Bible to one of the many unreached tribes who are living in that country. However, while she was still in the mission’s local head quarters to get some final advice before going out into the mountains she fell in love with one of the air plane mechanics there. So – what next? After some time of asking God for an answer and going the usual way she found out that she was supposed to marry this man and stay and work in the headquarters. So now she is there with her husband and her child doing administrative work. Sounds less exciting, of course, but is just as important!
